The Mission

Open the soul
exhausted and dormant
to generously fill
with the strength
radiating from the heart.

Awaken from hibernation
the power of mind.
Create a fusion of humility and ego
backed by confidence for a happy mind!

Unleash from cowardly matter
the vivid spirit's flame
to generate success.

Chuck out doubt!
Shake mind and nerves from intense shivers;
Create hope and bear the illusion and pain;

Disturb the stagnant and the quiet;
initiate soul's climb;

Use all possible ways
to harness the intellect
over habits -both good and evil.

Fulfill the arduous tasks
on earth(obviously CA is one)(Yea, atleast for me:))
is life's elect mission at the moment

The most difficult
and yet
THE most welcomed.

Dividing people on behavioural lines

Many people in the world we brush across, we dont form any opinion but when we do, we are bound to classify them as different types. Even for a person who dislikes to form opinions, like me, you cant help not classifying them.

In the last 2 years especially, Ive stumbled across diverse kinds of people. I would like to share 10 types of people who have strongly imprinted themselves in my mind.....

1. Mr.Know all who keeps mum

Everyone must have come across him.He works hard and hardly talks. The bookish type who wants himself to be projected that way. Always technically correct.

2. Flashers

The kind of people I H-A-T-E. The problem is that such people think that they are knowledgeable but their knowledge is confined to books. Never know practicality. They flash their knowledge at chottus at every chance and feel elated. Mr. Preface reader and Ms.Volatility are such kind.

3. Silent and Self-Centered

They are silent and unsocialising with ears all over the place. Remembers every word you wrongly uttered with him around the place. Latent inferiority complex reason their behavior. Tries to grab the attention with lousy techniques such as making gruntling sounds or raising others mistakes however small it might be in public. Do their work and they are pleased but do your work well and they are intimidated.

4. Showstopper

Whichever team he is, slips into irritation mode quite easily. Not only they don't work but they are speed breakers to others work too.(I'll never forget my FILING experience guys). Is completely inefficient and uncooperative. They are best suited for our opposing team.

5. The Self-centered unrepentant

They are not show stoppers but a slightly civilised version of them. They are unrepentant of their mistakes and are selfish beyond compare. Many say being selfish is allright in today's world. Oh Yeah? I disagree slightly! Be self centred to the extent others are not affected wrongly. You know it by observing the way they interact. 'They want you and you must help and they do not want you and you must disappear' kind of thinkers.

6. Mr. Pokeynose

He is the one we are most familiar with. Minds others business more than his. Ready to pour out Gyan at the drop of a hat. Such behaviour is fuelled by either by curiousity or lack of self confidence. I don think i need to elaborate on them.

7. The gossiper

Another familiar face. Mr.G has a huge inclination for being in the thick of action. Spreads information like a radio. Just being THE source gives him the kick to continue his behaviour. Once you see through his bluffs, he can be extremely entertaining with his antics. In fact, you can even enjoy his imagination in passing on incomplete information as complete ones.

8.Mr.Perfect

People with inhuman sense of perfection. Has extreme efficiency at whatever he does. Never gets bored of routine. I personally admire such people (I`ve met just 1 such person till date). Works with clockwork precision and obviously their result speaks for them.

9.The Diplomat

Diplomat one who refuses to take sides / give opinions. Being a diplomat is not much fun since once you've taken a neutral stand you don't want to involve yourself at all. Being a diplomat robs you of the thrill of being a part of an issue. But its advantage in being so is that no one comes to you for opinions or asks you any decision making queries since they know nothing fruitful will emerge from questioning you. A perfect hat for an escapist.

10.Namma mamaas

The moment you see these kind of people you get an affinity towards them. Do not bother about mistakes and take things lightly. Never bound by books. their energy level is visible only when they are in a group. They enjoy being in a herd and are marked by loads of impatience. Give them a group goal and it is as good as done.

Koundamani and IPL - A 'Rai'al connection

This is a damn late post to be in my blog but you shall have to read my ramblings.
Go on...

LAST YEAR IPL Chennai had a hot news - Lakshmi Rai Dating Dhoni

You know what irks me? It is not that she (whose only real calling card is that her name is somewhat phonetically related to Aishwarya Rai) is dating him or anything. But that this report calls her a “popular South Indian actress“. Enna koduma sir idu!!!

Reminds me of Koundamani yet again: “மூணு வீலும் ஒரு தார்பாலினும் இருந்தா நீ ஓனரா? படுவா, அப்போ டாட்டா பிர்லா-வல்லாம் என்னடா சொல்லுவீங்க?”

Woman Rights - Oversubscribed !

“If you want to bring out a change around you, then you be that change and what is there around you will as well change your way.”

Greet u ppl with this phrase. Sounds Great doesn't it? Having this phrase in my blog does not mean that what i've posted is such change from the routine.

Indian Learning System - Women way:

Ever since my 6th standard I've seen girls do well in exams. They follow a simple process of learning which unfortunately doesn't suit our unstructured brains one bit. Three words summarise it: Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and in some cases Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V . Nothing more nothing less.On a more tangible front, I still do not think we have any great teachers at CA Level till date.

{Personal view 1: Women teachers beyond school level are extremely good in singing lullabies )

Why to educate a women?

Women do have a razor sharp memory. All of you will vouch for that. Indian education system does not only recognise this fact but also encourages and appeases their way of learning things.

Why?

India is a country that believes in equity. No one should have an unfair advantage over the other.

We may not give 33% in the parliament but we do give a 75:25 edge to women on the academic front.

How?

We have adapted the learning pattern to test the memory and not the intellect. Teachers award rote learning but fail to recognise the unconventional thinkers.
Marks are awarded not to practicality but only for theory sans applicability.

No, I'm neither frustrated at my non-performance nor their 'good' 'academic' performance. Just frustrated that we have to remember but not know!!
(No wonder 90% of school teachers in India are Women. With due respect to teachers I reiterate that they do not mean harm intentionally but they jus do pass on their legacy in good faith and without negligence)

[Key: Throughout this blog, “WE’ refers to the men as a whole. There are always exceptions, but the ideas are brought out based on the majority experiences ;)]

The Great Indian Feminism:
But women, especially in India do have a skewed sense of gender equality.I'm sure i'll bag the votes for this sentence too.

What?!!!

For Eg,they feel that they are not given any position of power in the Country whose President, the ORIGINAL PM as on March 30th 2009 and Decisive regional party heads are all women.

Still not convinced. A Crude example must suffice. For(e.g)most of us won't feel that consumers of alcohol and smokers are given that RIGHT but we are not. Atleast I do not.

But the way women in India are bursting into bars and nightclubs suggest otherwise.(Again based on considerable first hand experience with no jibes intended).

Not convinced? See Chennai Times Page 3 everyday. Alcoholism is bad for both genders but atleast the RIGHTS ISSUE does not arise with men.

Travelling:
There seems to be a taboo that public transport is unsafe for a woman.
In 2009, I would like not to waste my time in addressing this issue but would like to respond in 8 alphabets "Bull Shit". I do not wish to focus on exceptions.

{Personal view 2: On the other hand I feel that women travelling by public transport is safe for other commuters on the road.Scootys and Streaks are zooming around chennai like none before.Along with it many cases of rash or thoughtless driving coupled with lack of control/maneuverability.)

As the saying goes 'Saathvikama irunda kaiya thooki kumbiduvanga' applies to both the genders even in this age . It is just that it is very tough to practise it.

A Revised version of the saying goes something like this 'Attoda attagasam Asin the vida mosam'. Hope you got the issue.

Introvert:

India is a country that believes in tolerance - "Hit us in Delhi and get Mumbai free" way of living.

We all are advised that anger should be controlled and not let loose. You may get angry for just reasons. Yeah, Like workplace inefficiency, misdirected irreverence etc. But i do not feel that anger should be expressed just because we have a skewed sense/belief of equality.

Recently I heard that only girls are brought up in life with the teaching about tolerance.I vote against the view.

Jus see what happens when a boy gets angry in front of his father.[Overa pesina avanuku idi(slaps), mazhai(tears) than]

Girls DO think:

It is a common misconception of women that men around start owning the woman and taking her for granted and that they have been bestowed with brains.

Oh yeah, Seems that we have not been bestowed with it!! Studies reveal that Men are better decision makers while women are mostly unstable with theirs. Men take the care to see to that women being volatile beings do not disturb others around them due to their sometimes not thought out decisions.

This is a preventive measure than a measure curtailing people's freedom. On the other hand, girls do think, but sometimes think too much and imagine so far that is both incomprehensible and unnecessary.

The thoughts on this issue keeps pouring as it is never ending debate..
but more important is the fact that i need to hit the sack right now as to get atleast 2 hours sleep before the Ind V NZ match begins...

Laziness

Why do I love being lazy?

  1. Nobody expects any top notch results when you are working.
  2. In order to minimize effort, you tend to think of quicker ways of resolving the issue – Widely regarded by many as “Smart work”.

(By the way what does that mean? I`m 2 lazy to check out a dict. (Also read as dictionary by enlightened souls).

  1. Every inch of your inefficiency gets dubbed as lethargy. (Your ignorance on the job is blurred from their view and you buy the time to get to know the issue fully)
  2. Incidental good results pushes u into a “This guy has loads f talent but rarely uses it” category where ur bosses get perennially optimistic about your performance the NEXT time.(Famously known as ‘F Tv phenomenon’ where you beLIEve “This one isn’t good, hopefully the next will be good”)

The above personal benefits apart we’ll discuss my favorite topic, pastime and habit – LAZINESS

Do u understand laziness the way it is?

Laziness is often confused with words like idle, sluggish, lethargy, inertia, inactivity etc. Surrounded by these words, we often miss the richness, leisure and take it easy attitude of Laziness.

HEALTHCARE AND LAZINESS

A Lazy person is a healthy person. The very thought of going to the pathology lab for blood tests, urine tests, ECG etc, going to doctors, hospitals, alternate therapies etc sends shivers up his spine. Hence he decides to remain healthy. Does that mean he will join a gym or aerobics.

NO WAY. Hence he searches out a lazy way of remaining healthy.

A life of less stress is enough to remain healthy. Anything more is always better, but HEY WHY BOTHER.

CONTRIBUTION OF THE LAZY MAN TO INDIAN CRICKET

It is like, when he plays cricket – he chooses spin bowling over fast bowling. No wonder India has always had good spin bowlers. When Batting, he chooses to hit more fours and sixes than running like crazy to steal those cheeky singles.

So if you want more Sehwags, Yuvis and Bhajjis(No! Not the one fried in the tea shop. I meant one fried in the cricket ground during the match!), .....

.. .. .. .. Appreciate laziness!! : )

LAZINESS AND HABITS

Laziness also keeps him away habits of Smoking, drinking and drugs. He does not understand the stress filled lifestyle, then spend the hard earned money on smoking, drinking, entertainment etc, and more money to doctors to remove cholesterol, high blood pressure, invite diabetes etc.

So Laziness bypasses this whole cycle. He takes it easy and spends his time more on planning for traveling for Leisure and to be with Nature (his nature).

THE LAZY FINANCIAL WHIZ

The Lazy person plans for an early retirement, and this makes him work hard at his profession. He will pick up work which is best suited to his nature and gets rewarded appropriately. The whole game of Name and Fame, coming ahead of others, power play, politics, competition, leg pulling etc is not interesting to him. (Who has the time and energy for all this, when you can enjoy your time with your friends / family in the comfort of your house.)

Being Lazy does not mean taking shortcuts. It means walking slowly on your path, observing, enjoying the journey, and having lots of patience – because the journey can be long.

If one is too stressed up about reaching your goal then you miss the leisure of walking and enjoying. Upon reaching your goal, the active person will not stop and enjoy – but will setup his next goal.

The Lazy person will search for a shade under a tree to relax when he reaches his goal. There are many Lawns, gardens with beautiful flowers created by active person – but they never find time to sit in them.

A Lazy person is often accused of being a day dreamer, of having the ability to achieve much more, but not using it to its full potential (I fit in here by sheer accident), not participating in all the formalities, rituals of the society etc – but hey – WHO CARES.. .

Cheers,

Just Remembering Sleep and Drowsiness..

Evano Oruvan Reviewed!!

DISCLAIMER:-1.This is my post after a looong break, so its gonna be a bit long.
2. If you are looking for a run-of-the-mill review for a run-of the-mill film, STOP!

I will describe the movie in short for you people as I'm sure you are all gonna watch it (as you've read past my disclaimer above) and know about it yourself. It's one of the best PARALLEL CINEMA EVER MADE IN TAMIL CINEMA in my opinion! You cannot compare it with commercial cinema and with MIDDLE CINEMA (Anbe Sivam, Nayagan etc). This is more along the international film making pattern of story telling and movie making and Evano Oruvan ranks with cult movies like Kurudhipunal etc.

Recently we saw a movie called Katradhu Tamizh , which had a similar outbreak of a man but it was very radical , very extreme and very lop sided ( in the law of averages ) . But Evano Oruvan teaches it a good lesson as it puts to shame CINEMATIC REALISM by portraying ABSOLUTE REALISM in the classiest of manners.

The movie brings out the inner demon inside us and puts him/her to shame while it also brings out the fiery social hero inside and asks him to WAKE UP AND VIEW THE TRUTH! Storywise , I'm gonna reveal nothing - I would be doing injustice to the creator of this masterpiece if I talk about the story. But one thing for sure, it's about each one of us at some point of our lives!! This has to be one of the most realistic, heart felt, social, thoughtful and passionately formed story in Tamil Cinema after a long time (Katradhu Tamil, a notable ally!)

Screenplay and direction wise, it's awesome as the movie is basically about what happens in a man's life in about 2 days! JUST 2 days and the world turns upside down for him . The way Nishikanth managed to show all the vital things within the screenplay by the introduction sequence in the movie where the daily lifestyle of Sreedhar Vasudevan is shown, is simply great thinking as he saved up time and told it slickly! The sequences keep moving on perfectly, establishing all the necessary characters and twists. No scene is too long or too short , unnecessary or irritating. Still, you'd need patience to watch the movie as though the running time is short, the sequences were very DEMANDING and some of the weaker minds might lose their focus early on, in this screenplay. But nothing can be done about that as if everyone could be satisfied, then God would lose his job up above. But going by mortal standards, screenplay was spot on.

I'm still amazed about how a guy who has no clue about the tamizhans and their pulse, has picked up the right issues and made people emote in the right way to bring out the right message! At one point of time, I was melted to worthless liquid when i watched a scene where Maddy spoke like King Alexander while reciting a scathing letter in flowing english to God in the middle of the road in midnight . Even though the performance of Maddy in that scene was so touching and mind blowing, the idea to come up with something like that is fantastic and unexplainable of some sorts! Nishikanth really has taken us head-on with his handling of the screenplay and Direction. All the supporting cast were gelled into the movie that at no point did you feel like the supporting cast are giving a carefree performance! Nishikanth made it a point to get a firm grip on every inch of this movie, Hats off!!

I'm not supposed to be saying this but i almost cried today for the way Maddy struggled in the movie as Sreedhar Vasudevan. It made me feel hurt and passionate - about the issues dealt with.Anyways, I dunno if this movie is going to plant a change in the society or not. Even if it does, it will only be temporary as we are in a monotonous system where we will eventually revert back to the old practises to which we are exposed more.

There are a lot of people in the theatres who kept moaning and groaning! I hope they are reading this and I just want to tell them to - Buzz Off! I hope they are offended badly because these people really tarnish our industry big time. The efforts put into this movie really don't deserve the crap they threw at it.

Finally,Sreedar Vasudevan is R.Madhavan's BEST PERFORMANCE EVER! And one of tamil cinema's greatest performances ever - Easily! I was the last person to leave the theatre hall - it was so emotional and inspirational for me. I felt like I had a dose of courage, strength and pride instilled in me all of a sudden and it was all down to Maddy's performance. An ingenious performance of some sorts. He breathed fire when he was speaking to god in the middle of the road! HATS OFF!!!

Grant of clemency-- Political manoeuvres?

One issue thats been rockin d whole country 4 d past 1 month isthe debate whether AFZAL GURU shud be given clemency or not..
I personally feel that such people should not escape capital punishment.Granting clemency because a group is threatening to break into violence if he s hanged amounts to sumbitting ourselves to unadulterated blackmail, doesn`t it?Attacking the heart of republic India is too big a crime against d nation tobe granted pardon. If not 4 d jawans who sacrificed their lives 4 protectingthe parliament, the terrorists wud have made a mockery of d Indian claim of being one of d superpowers in d modern world.
And after masterminding suchan heinous crime, the family of dis guy wants him 2 be pardoned becoz his childwants 2 bcome a doc.To top it all,a group supports their claim and even J&KCM issues a public statement in his favour. This happens in no other country, except India--- mera bharat mahaan..
If dis incident had happened in any other country , the family members wud not have dared to venture out to raise a voicein his favour leave alone petitioning d prez. And d so called secularists say that he shud not be hanged.Such pseudo-secularists incl(Cong.&Left parties) have blatantly shown their interests in attracting vote banks rather than viewing such incidents with seriousness. The left have a dubious record in encouraging such anti-India activiies.Even during d Indo-Chinese war in 1962, they openly favoured the chinese cause. And WE-AS THE "responsible" citizens of India have been voting for them and even making them rule unchanged in some places for 20-30 yrs.
Lets take d case of Indira gandhi.A similar incident occurred where again d left and some other parties demanded clemency 4 dat terrorist. And that militant organisation, had openly challenged d Govt. dat India did not dare to hang him else it wudface very dire consequences. As PM she ensured that he was not granted clemency and was hanged in public view.Such a tough stand is d need of d hour and it does not seem 2 b d casesince our parties seem more interested in maintaining poll alliances dan punishing ahard core criminal and protecting Indians.
If we grant clemency to AFZAL GURU today, who knows there will be a situationwhere we nab Osama for actually bombing our parliament and granting him public apology and who knows he may be an MP in d next election too..
Let d decision dis incident spark fear in minds of terrorists and who knows this spark may turn into a fire which burns dem down.
You r free 2 give ur comments on dis issue and please do.

My 1st day @ MSSS

I think it was 4th June 2003....
I felt no nervousness of goingto a new school.Just a bit disappointed that i had only 3 days gap after getting my 10th results.Anyway, with the thought of entering a new phase of life giving me company on a lonely trip to my new school, i entered the school.Being a new admission,i had usual apprehensions of a newie about the school.
I asked 4 directions from members of d skool and entered the class appropriated 4 XI-C.I saw 2-3 guys sitting on the benches in d last row.One of them first noticed me & greeted me with a warm smile.I reciprocated and sat near him.The last place near door in d last row.Trrring!!!!Wasit d School bell. After d prayer session,it was all a hazed images. One teacher after another paraded into d class for each periodeach sparking off another intro of new students ritual.
Though i knew G.P(its still a mystery how she manages to attend d 1st day of each academic yrregularly!!) prior 2 my admission,i knew i wasn`t going to get any spl. treatment meted out 2 me.I never spoke a word that day 2 my neighbours, except telling my name.In fact i was so apprehensive that,i never even had a look of other section guys or even gals till d end of 1st week. ................(will b continued)

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son. "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! "
Life is too short and friends are too few.""A Smile happens fast but its memory may last forever." Keep Smiling..... :-)
